Basic Function
1. Trade Panel Trade Panel is designed to help you quickly manage accounts and trades.
2. Trade Grid Trade Grid is the main section where users are able to view and interact with their trades.
3. Broker Account Tree The Account List is designed to help you quickly find the accounts or data View. There are five Brokerage types:

  1. Standard Brokerage account—– General investing account that helps you build and manage a diversified portfolio. Standard Brokerage accounts can be individual, joint, custodial, or business accounts.
  2. IRA or Keogh account—- Special accounts that allow saving taxes deferred until money is withdrawn. These plans are subject to frequent changes in law with respect to the deductibility of contributions. Withdrawals of tax-deferred contributions are taxed as income, including the capital gains from such accounts.
  3. 529 College Saving Plans—- A tax-advantaged investment program that can be used to fund a child’s higher education at any accredited U.S. post-secondary school. Plans are established by individual states but are typically available nationwide.
  4. UGMA/UTMAs— A brokerage account that allows you to invest on behalf of a minor. Funds can be used for any expense the child incurs, not just education. Ultimately, the child assumes ownership of the account, with a portion of withdrawals taxed at their rate.
  5. Single Mutual Fund— A account is professionally managed and can be a simplified way to diversify a portfolio.
If you select the Trade in the Trade Panel or Quick Access panel,you will get the Account List (similar to the picture above). Accounts are organized in logical groups that are collected together under tabs.
4. Group By Panel Drag a column header here to group by that column.
5. Time Range Filter First select the Begin and End Date then press the Apply button to filter the trades within a period.
6. Preset View TradeMax provides the frequently-used view for the data grid. You can select one from the Preset view dropdown list or skip it if you like.
7.Quick Access Bar Click one alphabet button to go to the specific trades beginning with the specific alphabet.

Trade Panel

Trade Panel is designed to help you quickly manage accounts and trades.

Price 1. Download the Price of holding securities in the end of specific Finance year ( used for unrealized G/L Report)2. Download Put Options’ underlying stock price on the day before transaction date. (Used for Checking the Put Option is in-the-money)
Market Download Exchange Market for a symbol
Scan Scan the status of transactions in the current data grid and the concerned trades will be highlighted in red or green:1. Red records indicate the error transaction:a.If there is no position on hold, a close action(Sale to Close, Buy to Cover) will generate errors.b.when option exercised or assigned, the strike price of the option didn’t match the underlying stock trade price.c. When option exercised or assigned, the quantity of the option didn’t match the underlying stock trade quantity..d. When the option expired, the close price is not zero.e. Missing/Inconsistent Data fields by using Qty, Price, Commission, Fees and Rate information.

2. Green records indicate that the closed transactions (A Sale to Close, a Buy to Cover ) close all your holding open position.

Note: You should manually adjust the action , quantity, sequence of the trade to correct these errors.

View Group Group By Box Press the Group By Box button to activate the Group By panel which is at the top of the data grid.It allows grouping data by single or multiple columns. You can either set grid column(s) that will be used for grouping, or enable Group By Box where grouped columns may be dropped at runtime
Field Chooser Press the Field Chooser button to activate the Field Chooser box floating above the data grid.The built-in Filed Chooser provides a simple and efficient way to organize the grid layout: you can drag and drop the column header to the chooser from the grid header. You can also drag any required field from the chooser and drop it either on the grid header, or on the group box.
Outlook Bar Hide or display the Account List
Column Auto-Resize Allow TradeMax to automatically resize columns in the data grid.

The Quick Access Toolbar


The Quick Access Toolbar is a customizable toolbar that contains a set of tool and command shortcuts.

  • Move the Quick Access Tool bar to the area below the Ribbon.
  • Right-click on icons or options within Ribbon to add the tools and commands to the Quick Access Toolbar.
  • Use More Commands to add shortcuts from a list of every TradeMax option.
  • Hide the commands under the ribbon tabs by clicking the Minimize the Ribbon
  • Use to undo the last action or redo the previously undo action

Change the Location of the Quick Access Toolbar

  1. Click on the Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. In the list, click Show Below the Ribbon

-or-

  1. Click on Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. In the list, click Show Above the Ribbon.

Quickly Add a Tool or Command

 

  1. Right-click on a tool or command in a ribbon tab.
  2. Click Add to Quick Access Toolbar.

Remove a Tool or Command

  1. Right-click on a tool or command in the Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. Click Remove from Quick Access Toolbar.

Customize the Quick Access Toolbar

  1. Click on the Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. In the list, click More Commands

  1. Right-click on a tool or command in a ribbon tab or Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. Click Customize Quick Access Toolbar

You will get the following box:

Basic Function
1. Choose commands From the dropdown list, you can select the category which the commands belong. The categories are Main Menu, Preset View, Trade, Calendar etc.
2. Commands List Lists the commands which belong to the chose category in the Choose commands from.
3 Select the checkbox to show the Access Toolbar below the Ribbon
4. Keyboard Press the Customize button to customize the keyboard shortcuts
5. Add & Remove Button Add commands from the Commands List box to the Tool List or remove commands from the Tool List.
6. Reset Button Reset the setting of the Quick Access Toolbar
7. Tool List Show the commands in the Quick Access Toolbar
8. Arrow Button Change the order of the commands in the left Tool List box.

 

 

Preset View


Section 1: Preset View

TradeMax provides the frequently-used view of the data grid. You can select one from the Preset View‘ dropdown list or skip it if you like.

Note:

  • The data grid is grouped by TradeDate by default.
  • If you customize the appearance of data grid manually and can’t find some column headers, you can get back your entire column header by selecting the option TradeFull in the Preset View or use Field Chooser function to drag column header back.

 

 

 

Group By Panel


Section 2: Group By Panel

If you want group by some specific column header, you can drag a column header to Group By Panel. It will display only when you press the Group By Box button under the Trade tab one the View group box like the following picture:

Notes:

  • Press the Group By Box button to activate the Group By Panel which is at the top of the data grid. It allows grouping data by single or multiple columns. You can either set grid column(s) that will be used for grouping, or enable Group By Box where grouped columns may be dropped at runtime.
  • Press the Field Chooser to activate the Field Chooser box floating above the data grid. The built-in Filed Chooser provides a simple and efficient way to organize the grid layout: you can drag and drop the column header to the chooser from the grid header. You can also drag any required field from the chooser and drop it either on the grid header, or on the group box.
  • The Column Auto-Resize used to resize your columns automatically according to the length of the field.

 

 

Time Range Filter


Section 3: Time Range Filter

With Time Range Filter, you can filter the trades within a period. You just need to select BeginDate and EndDate.

Take the BeginDate as an example.

  • Select the BeginDate checkbox to activate this function
  • Select the date from the dropdown calendar.
    you can also use the left-arrow and the right-arrow to change the year
  • Click month, day or year and use the up-arrow or down-arrow far right of the date to select the specific date.
  • You can also manually enter the date with you keyboard.Cick the field of that you want to change and enter the date with your keyboard as the following instruction.
    TradeMax provides you the date format month/day/year/hour/minutes/am (pm). (refer to the above picture)

    Month The month as a number or an English month names in short form (e.g. Jan.). Just type the initials letter of the month some times according to the sequence in the 12 month to get the right month. For example, Jan-type j one time; Jun-type j two times; Jul-type j there times

    Year 1999-2090 Please enter the last two digits of the year (e.g. 2007, just enter 07)
    Hour 0–12 It is a 12-hour format, with “am” or “pm” after the number.

Section 4: Data Grid

The Grid is the main section where users are able to view and interact with their trades.

  1. All trades are sorted by TradeDate.
  2. The current record is indicated by a small triangle to the far left of the record and by a blue background color.
  3. Columns can be resized by positioning the mouse cursor over the line between the columns in the column header row, holding down the left mouse button and dragging the line to the desired location.To print the grid in one page, you can hold down the left mouse button and drag the far right line to your wish location.

    In addition, TradeMax will resize your columns automatically when you select the Column Auto-Resize checkbox.

  4. Records can be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking on any column header. For example, to sort by symbol in ascending order, click Symbol in the column header once and there will be up-arrow after Symbol. To sort in descending order, click Symbol twice and there will be a down-arrow after Symbol. To cancel the sorting, you can click Symbol the third time.
  5. Expand/ collapse the item
    1. You can collapse / expand all items one by one or use the right-clicking any item and selecting the Expand All Items or Collapse All Items as the following:
      • Right click the data grid and select the Collapse All Items 
      • Right-click the grid to select the Expand All Items and you will again get the first picture back.
    2. You can also click to collapse one item and click to expand one item
  6. The scroll bar (at far right) can be used to scroll the display up or down.Keyboard shortcuts also can be used to quickly scroll up or down as follows:
    • <Up Arrow> and <Down Arrow> keys move one record at a time.
    • <Page Up> and <Page Down> keys move one whole page at a time.
    • < End> moves to the very end of the file.
    • < Home> moves to the very beginning of the file.

Part Two: Custom Grid

TradeMax provides you a simple and flexible way to group the data and customize the appearance of data grid: you just need to drag and drop the column header with your mouse.

Let’s take an example:

  1. Select the TradeSimple in the Preset View
  2. Press the Group By Box, Field Chooser button on the View group box in the Trade tab. (refer to its function in Group By Panel notes )
  3. Display the following grid:In this grid, you will see:
  4. The Group By panel displays on the top of the data grid

    The Field Chooser box is floating on the data grid. In addition, the Field Chooser is used to set the fields which are dragged out of the grid header.

  5. Group the data and customize the grid
    1. To group the data by single column header (Symbol), you can drag and drop the column header Symbol to the Group By panel.The following grid displays:

      The column header Symbol is out of the data grid header and appeared in the Field Chooser box.

    2. To group the data by multiple columns (for example, group by Symbol first and then group by the TradeDate), following the first step, then you can drag the column header TradeDate to the Group By panel after the Symbol.The following grid displays:

    3. If you think there are too much columns in the grid, you can hide any one of them by drag it to the Field Chooser box. Under this situation, the data will not be grouped by that column. (This is different from the above Group By panel function). You can drag and drop it like the following:And you will get your desired grid like this:

      The column header Action appears in the Field Chooser box.

    4. If you want to drag the column header Symbol back to the grid header, you can follow the instruction like this:Then the following grid appears:

      Now, the data in the grid is grouped by Symbol first and then the TradeDate.

 

 

 

My Broker(s)


Context Menu makes our task a breeze in windows and TradeMax makes full use of context menu function under the Account List. Right-click different item, you will get different context menu.

  1. Right click the My Broker or broker folder, you will get the following Menu

    Add New Account Setup a new account to set you trade data

    TXF Export Export the TXF files to your computer. The TXF files can be imported to popular tax software such as TaxCut and TurboTax.

  7. Right click the view FYxxxx (For example FY2008) and select the Add View show you the following context menu:

    Stock Contains all Stock transactions
    Option Contains all Option. transactions
    Future Contains all Future transactions
    Currency Contains all Currency transactions
    Stock Option and SSF Contains all Stock Option and SSF transactions
    Baseline Contains the baseline positions of the current tax year
    Finance Data Contains the cash flow data, for example, cash dividends.
    Trade Data Contains the all trade data for the schedule D purpose
    My holdings Contains the holding position of specific date

  8. Right click the view Trade Data and select the Add Report, the following context menu display:

    Short/Long Term Capital G&L Report This is the default report created by TradeMax to file with IRS.
    IRS Schedule D-1 This report is for those users who require a more exact replica of the IRS form.
    Realized Gain/Loss Report This report is for those users who require trade transaction detail. Such as Security, Quantity, open price, Open date, Open Commission, Close price, close commission, sales price, cost basic, Actual gain &lose for each transaction. Moreover, it can be grouped by ID, Symbol or TradeDate.
    Unrealized Gain/Loss Report This report is for those users who  want to get the information of Gain/Loss when the price of the securities decrease or increase after buying, but he or she has yet to sell it.
    Transactioon Detail Report This report lists every trade record as displayed in the grid. Additionally, the profit or loss can be grouped by ID, Symbol or TradeDate.
    Cost Basis Transaction Report This report is for those users who track the cost basis in stocks, bonds and mutual funds to report a cost basis when an investment is sold.
    Summary Report This valuable summary or aggregation of an entire ID or Symbol allows a user to see how one symbol performed versus another.
    Wash Sale Detail Report This report allows you to analyze your disallowed wash sale losses deferred to next year.
    Mark to Market for Form 4797 This report is for traders in stocks, options and single-stock futures who elect mark-to-market accounting to report their trading activity on Form 4797
    Mark to Market Detail Report This report is for those users  want to record the price or value of a security, portfolio on a daily basis to calculate gains and losses or to confirm that margin requirement are met.
    Daily Market Value Report This report is for those users who track the performance and market value of the securities on daily basis in specific finance year. The report will show the portfolio of every transaction on daily basis.

Download Holding Security Price


 With this function, you can download holding security prices from the Internet that you track in TradeMax, view the price history to monitor the performance of the securities in a certain period of time, which help you to better make your investment. 

Trademax will download the price of the symbol on holding position in the end of the specific Finance year in Trade View.

  1. In Trade View, you should choose specific Finance Year first, and then click the Price Button in the Ribbon field.
    • Download Hold-  TradeMax will download the price of the holding securities.
    • Download Selected- TradeMax will download the price of the selected securities (you have to select the securities first, or the price dialog box below will not display)
    • Download All – TradeMax will download the price of all securities in trade grid.

  3. A dialog box opens, and
    click Download button to continue the process, the data will be downloaded.

    Function
    Description
    1.Begin date

    End date

    If you have selected the specific Finance Year, the default date is the last five days of the Finance year. But if you selected the current finance year , the default date will be the latest five days prior to the date when you download prices of the symbols.
    2.Symbol All the symbols on holding position in the end of specific finance year. Please be sure that the ticker symbol is correct or has not been changed.
    3.Date The last day of the finance year or the first day of the next Finance Year( Because the last day may be on weekends or national holidays)
    4.Price The price of the symbol
    5.Status It will display whether the symbol’s price is successfully downloaded or not.
  4. After downloading the price of the security, you can get the data of symbols’ price history.
    • Click thePrice History Tab , the above Price History Grid extends .
    • You can activate the checkbox to set the Begin Date and End Date .
    • Select the specific security record, the dialog box will display the price history in the specific period. ( For example, select BCF , the dialog box displays the price history of BCF from 09/02/2009 to 09/23/2009. )
